TURN Gallery is pleased to present Coco Currents, Rachel Eulena Williams’s first solo exhibition at the gallery.

In this body of work, Rachel Eulena Williams investigates painted canvas as sculptural material. Breaking free of the traditional square, her strokes are replaced by ropes that visually and structurally hold together layered fragments of unstretched paintings. Her escaped lines and raised markings drift between abstract and cohesive pictorial elements. An interpretation of a culture of novelty, objectification and mass consumption, formally blurring the line between masculinity and femininity. Rachel Eulena Williams’s process combines aggressive blunt cuts with tenderly sewn structures that reclaim canvas as fabric.
