TURN Gallery is pleased to present a solo exhibition of works by Bernie Kaminski, opening in our Parlour Room on Wednesday, September 14th. This marks Kaminski’s first solo exhibition.

Kaminski’s sculptural practice started inadvertently after his daughter brought home a paper mâché seahorse she made at school. As a way to amuse himself and his family, he began building paper mâché versions of common objects found in their apartment.

His creative process has remained intuitive, as each work is imbued with a sense of play and reflects the artist’s personal insight into the real object, with a key focus on nostalgia for an era gone by. Elevating the craft of paper mâché and the importance of items generally considered banal—from a manila envelope, a Kodak film roll, and an autographed baseball to the New York White and Yellow pages, a Zabar’s mug of pencils, and a stack of 1960s National Geographic magazines—Kaminski encourages pondering of the intimate possessions that constitute our day-to-day and the culture they represent. TURN Gallery is thrilled to present his debut exhibition.

Bernie Kaminski will open Wednesday, September 14th with a reception from 6–8 pm in the Parlour Room, along with our group exhibition Diamond Window. Both shows will be on view until Thursday, October 20th. We are located on the second floor of 32 East 68th Street NY, NY 10065. The gallery is open Wednesday–Saturday 12–6pm. Masks are required in the gallery. For further information, contact Annika at ap@turngallerynyc.com
