TURN Gallery's inaugural show opens with photographer Gösta Peterson. From The Archive is a solo exhibition of iconic fashion photographer Gösta Peterson's selected groundbreaking black-and-white and color photography from 1960 to 1980. Included in this exhibition is Peterson's renowned New York Times Fashion of the Times spread of Twiggy (the first photo taken of Twiggy in America) and historic New York Times fashion cover featuring Naomi Sims (the first female African-American model to grace the cover of an American magazine). From the Archive includes famous as well as never seen before works from Harper's Bazaar, Elle, Mademoiselle, Cosmopolitan, L'Officiel, Look, Henri Bendel, Esquire and GQ.
Gösta Peterson was born in Sweden in 1923. He arrived in New York City in 1948 where he worked as an illustrator and taught himself photography. Gösta Peterson began shooting for Mademoiselle in 1958 and continued to work for them as well as other publications from 1965 to 1977. Gösta Peterson also consistently worked for the New York Times fashion magazine.
