Turn Gallery is pleased to present Farshad Farzankia in How to Close a Tulip in our Parlour Room. This exhibition will include a series of portraits on paper and canvas. Born in Tehran in 1980, Farzankia emigrated to Denmark with his family in 1989. Farzankia paints symbols of both personal and political significance; tulips, birds, and human figures rendered in bold colors and expressive strokes. Tulips represented martyrdom in ancient Persian folklore long before they appeared on the national flag used since the Iranian Revolution of 1979. In this exhibition, Farzankia reclaims the spirit of the tulip, reflecting on a mounting revolution and the potential end of an oppressive regime.

His most recent solo exhibition Ten Thousand Things was held at Foundry Seoul, Seoul Korea (2022). Solo museum presentations include Willumsens Museum, Frederikssund (2022) and ARKEN Museum for Moderne Kunst, Ishøj (2021). Other solo and two person exhibitions include Andersen’s Contemporary, Copenhagen, Denmark (2020), a two person presentation with Mason Saltarrelli Turn Gallery, New York (2020), Politikens Forhal, Copenhagen, Denmark (2019), Richard Heller, Santa Monica, CA (2018). He has participated in numerous group exhibitions throughout Europe.
